犬猝死症患病犬发病急,死亡快,多在死前1h狂燥不安,嚎叫,四处撞壁,转圈运动,口吐白沫,呼吸急促,发抖抽搐,卧地不起,不时呻吟,四肢划动,角弓反张,很快昏迷而死。病程长者可拖延数小时而抗原抗体。

犬猝死症发病急,病犬往往来不及治疗,治疗也缺少有效办法,病死率很高。且发病死亡犬多为青壮龄犬,给我国养犬业造成了很大威胁。为此,有人在全国范围内开展犬猝死症的病原及病因调查,收集到猝死病犬病料165份,检验分析表明89%猝死犬有以下三种病因:产气荚膜梭菌感染、氟乙酰胺中毒(又名敌杀死、抗原抗体,一种毒性较大的灭鼠药)、肉毒梭菌毒素中毒。其中产气荚膜梭菌占75%以上,后两种各占18%和7%。

许多固体培养基能用作分离培养幽门螺杆菌的基础培养基。例如:脑心浸液琼脂、哥伦比亚琼脂、布氏琼脂和M-H琼脂等。但必需加入适量的全血(马、羊或人)或胎牛血清作为补充物。加入适量的活性炭(0.2%)或淀粉(1%)亦有利于吸收培养基中衍化产生的毒性氧离子。
